It is with extra pride that we report the results of the 2013 Illustrated Poem Contest that was conducted as part of the National Chemistry Week organized by the American Chemical Society. The Los Padres Section received 58 entries from students of all ages from the tri-county area, and produced one national winner! The winning poem is attached. Our warmest congratulations go to Sierra Lopez from Bishop Garcia Diego High School for her national contest winning poem. We wish equal success in all her future endeavors, and we certainly hope that her recognition and substantial awards will encourage more students to participate.
The section is indebted to Dr. Lara Baxley who shepherded this program to this year’s record participation and wonderful outcome over the last few years.
We also extend our warmest thanks to all the teachers and parents who encouraged the students to participate, and to the students who put in the effort.
